BREEDING STANDARDS

Our breeding standards are matched by only a few elite puppy breeders – not only in Ohio but across the entire United States. We have these high standards to assure you that we have done everything possible to give your family a very healthy Labrador Retriever puppy which will bring you companionship and entertainment for years to come!

We aim for the following characteristics in our Sires & Dams
Trainability
Touch tolerance
Good eye contact
Solid nerve strength
Desire to please you
Accepting of unfamiliar people
Self-Control in difficult situations
ABILITY TO FOCUS ON TASK AT HAND
CONFIDENCE TO TACKLE NEW EXPERIENCES
QUICK RECOVERY FROM ALARMING SIGHTS & SOUNDS

These character traits, along with sound breeding from a mental and physical health perspective, give us the best possible opportunity to raise excellent family members.

Why are puppies from Osborne Family Retrievers so highly desired?

Our sires & dams have been evaluated by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) resulting in excellent/good scores for hips & elbows and good/normal scores for patella (knees), heart and eyes which are critically important for the good health and long life of your puppy. All of our breeding parents have been tested and cleared of the most common diseases in the breed. This extra testing is not common with most breeders, which is why they can offer Lab puppies for less cost. Without testing, however, you are taking a greater risk regarding the quality of life for your new puppy. To understand the importance of DNA testing and physical health screenings, check out this article by the OFA.

When we decided to breed Labrador Retreivers, we wanted them to be top-notch, excellent-quality canine family members. Our first objective in order to reach that goal was to do the best we could to ensure that our breeding parents had excellent health and fabulous temperaments which would translate to well-balanced healthy puppies.

Too often we have heard stories about folks purchasing puppies for next to nothing, falling in love with them, and then having to put them down (or invest thousands of dollars) after just a few short years due to ill health as a result of poor breeding. There is no happy ending to this story. It’s just very sad for everyone involved.

It is our delight to provide a few families with our special Lab puppies each year.  We are not a huge operation, and we intentionally keep it that way so we don’t lose sight of why we started – our love and passion for the breed.
