Our children acquired their love for dogs ten years ago when a lonely, malnourished Golden Retriever Lab mix was spotted wandering down our country road. The search to find his owners turned up empty, so “Murray” was officially adopted and became one of the best things that ever happened to our family!
Consequently, we joined a dog 4-H club and went to our county fair for the first time with Murray! What happened next is still a blur, but from those humble beginnings we ended up taking all the livestock species over the next six years, coming home with many ribbons, trophies, stall signs, crowns, and sashes. We stayed busy with lambs, goats, dairy beef feeders, rabbits, hogs, chickens, geese and turkeys until our youngest daughter aged out of 4-H several years ago.
Wanting to keep active with animals and make use of all that we had learned about breeding and raising our livestock projects, our children spent the last several years of 4-H doing research on what they would like to do when this amazing experience came to an end. The decision was made. We wanted more Murrays! At present, with our young adults being 22-27 years old and getting married, we continue to enjoy raising and breeding Labrador Retrievers.
